HB 1427 VETOED by Governor DeSantis
Posted 8 days ago
Late last night, we received notification through the state system that Governor Ron DeSantis has vetoed House Bill 1427.
We are disappointed in the Governor’s decision, as this bill represented a step forward in strengthening Florida’s healthcare system—both now and for the future. As the landscape of healthcare continues to evolve, the field of nursing has become increasingly complex and in greater demand. It is more important than ever to ensure that the quality of nursing education and the preparation of all medical professionals remain rigorous and aligned with the needs of our communities.
HB 1427 sought to address these evolving demands by supporting standards that would uphold the integrity of the nursing profession and advance the delivery of care across our state. While this outcome is not what we hoped for, our commitment to advocating for policies that support nurse practitioners, nursing students, and the health of all Floridians remains unwavering.
We will continue to engage with state leaders and stakeholders to promote legislation that strengthens healthcare access, maintains high professional standards, and supports the growing needs of our population.
